In the summer of 2000, the installation Bologna Towers 2000 directed by Peter Greenaway took place in Bologna, which was elected European capital of culture that year. In the evenings of the end of June the facades of the buildings that frame Piazza Maggiore where turned into screens for the projection of handwritten texts in continuous movement, still images of the city and film clips. All complemented by a soundtrack composed of music, sounds and narrative voices spatialized in quadraphony throughout the square.
